What is a Peppol ID?
A Peppol ID is the address at which a business receives e-invoices over the Peppol network. It consists of a four-digit scheme code and a number from an existing register. Belgian businesses usually use their enterprise number (scheme 0208), often alongside their VAT number (9925). Dutch businesses usually use their KVK number (0106).

How do you check whether a business is on Peppol?
Don’t know the number? Search by company name to get matches from the Peppol Directory, then check the registration of a Peppol ID.
- Choose the country and enter the enterprise, KVK or VAT number. Dots and spaces are fine.
- The tool turns it into the possible Peppol IDs, such as 0208:0123456789 for a Belgian enterprise number.
- For each Peppol ID you see whether it is registered on the Peppol network and with which service provider.
- If the business is listed in the Peppol Directory, you also see its name and whether it receives invoices.
Peppol Directory or registration: what is the difference?
Whether an invoice can be delivered depends on the registration on the Peppol network. A service provider enters the Peppol ID in Peppol’s central address book (the SML) and records on its own SMP server which documents the business receives. This tool checks that registration in the SML directly.
The Peppol Directory is a public search engine with company details that providers publish in addition. Not every registered business is listed. A Peppol ID that is registered but not listed can usually still receive e-invoices.
What if your customer is not on Peppol?
Ask your customer for their Peppol ID first: they may be registered under another number, such as their VAT number instead of their enterprise number. In Belgium, structured e-invoicing between VAT-registered businesses has been the rule since 1 January 2026. In the Netherlands, B2B e-invoicing is not yet mandatory, so a PDF invoice by email remains possible there.

How do I find a company’s Peppol ID?
Belgian businesses usually use 0208 followed by their enterprise number, for example 0208:0123456789, and often 9925 with their VAT number. Dutch businesses usually use 0106 with their KVK number. Enter the number in the tool to check which IDs are registered.
Is the Peppol Directory complete?
No. Service providers publish company details in the Peppol Directory voluntarily. A business can be registered and receive e-invoices without being listed, which is why this tool also checks the registration on the Peppol network itself.
Which provider is a Peppol ID registered with?
The tool shows the server of the service provider holding the registration. To switch providers, the current provider has to release the registration before a new provider can register the same Peppol ID.
Does a Peppol ID cost money?
The ID itself is your existing enterprise, KVK or VAT number. Registration and sending or receiving over Peppol go through a service provider or invoicing software, and the cost depends on that provider.
