Short answer
A credit note corrects an invoice you sent earlier. It refers to that invoice’s number and shows the amounts and VAT you reverse as negative amounts. This generator lets you enter all of that on one screen and gives you a PDF straight away.
When do you need a credit note?
You don’t edit or delete an invoice once it has been sent. If something is wrong, you correct it with a credit note: a wrong amount, a return, a discount afterwards or an order that is cancelled. Then you send a new, correct invoice if needed.
What goes on a credit note?
- A clear reference to the invoice you correct, with its number and date.
- The date and your business details.
- The lines you reverse, as negative amounts at the same VAT rate.
- Its own number, so your records stay complete.
- For Belgian businesses that reduce VAT charged: the statement "BTW terug te storten aan de Staat in de mate waarin ze oorspronkelijk in aftrek werd gebracht". The generator adds it when your business is in Belgium and VAT applies.
Credit notes and Peppol in Belgium
Since 1 January 2026, a document that changes a structured e-invoice is itself an e-invoice. A credit note for an invoice to a VAT-registered Belgian business that went over Peppol therefore goes over Peppol too. A PDF is fine for private customers and customers abroad.
Frequently asked questions
Is this credit note generator really free?
Yes. You create and download a credit note without an account or subscription. The PDF carries a small Factuur Simpel credit at the bottom. A generous limit of 50 free PDFs per 30 days per internet connection applies to the invoice, quote and credit note generators together.
Should I delete the original invoice?
No. You keep both the original invoice and the credit note in your records. Together they show what you finally invoiced.
What happens to my data?
We only use the credit note you fill in to create the PDF. Your business details, customers and draft stay in your own browser.
